책을 읽다가 "Let's say..."와 마주쳤다.

무슨 뜻인지 모르겠다.

 

사전을 찾아본다.

Let's say는 영한사전에서 "이를 테면", "~라고 치자", "~라고 가정하자" 라는 뜻을 찾을 수 있다.

영영사전에서는 "used as a way of introducing a hypothetical or possible situation" 이라는 설명을 찾아 볼 수 있다. 

 

어떤 것을 논의할 때, 어느 상황을 가정하고 그 상황에서 어떤 일이 일어날지 묘사할 때 쓸 수 있다고 한다.
